Artist Biography
Sadie Rose (African American, b. 1997) was born and raised in Rocky Mount, NC. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Barton College, Wilson, North Carolina. She is a photographer, screen printer, and muralist whose work explores the avenues of African American culture and its disparities.
Sadie makes photographic work using film. Her works are defined by lyrical lines, color, fabric, and texture.
As a multi-hyphenate artist, she finds inspiration through fragments of people that look like herself. She believes there is truly something magical in giving art a conscious. She's committed to cultivating a dialogue about African American culture and its wavering path through unrefined photo imagery, screen printing, and illustrations.
In doing so, her practices are at the intersection of then and now. It has become the reflection of experiences within this community’s past, present, and future. Ultimately, providing her audience with a dialogue and opportunity to connect to a community they may or may not be familiar with.
African American writer, Lorraine Hansberry, has encouraged her to create stories about the world as it is and as it ought to be. As of now, she has focused on what it is.
